σῶς. ἔσσεσθ', ἐμὲ δ' οὐδὲν οπίζεο νόσφιν ἐόντα.
νήπιε: τοῖο δ' ἄνευθεν ἀοσσητὴρ, μέγ' ἀμείνων
νηυσὶν ἐπὶ γλαφυρῇσιν ἐγὼ μετ' όπισθε λελείμμην.
ὅς τοι γούνατ' ἔλυσα: σε μὲν κύνες ἠδ' οἰωνοὶ
ἑλκήσουσ' ἀϊκῶς: τὸν δὲ κτεριοῦσιν Ἀχαιοί:
Howbeit the ashen spear, heavy with bronze, clave not the windpipe, to the end that he might yet make answer and speak unto his foe.
